Shopping trip to Ludlow.
Here are a few details about the forthcoming shopping trip, which is now fully subscribed, and if you have not previously booked a place, then I am afraid there is now no room for anyone else.

The trip is planned for Thursday 3rd December 2015, and the bus (which will be from Cymru Coaches) will leave Swansea at 10am from the bus stops situated between Tescos and the bus station and multi storey car park. It will be travelling up the Swansea Valley and make a pick up just north of the M4 junction 45, at the bus stop by Smiths petfoods. This will be for people who have arranged with the organiser to be collected there. If you wish to be picked up there you must inform him, but a word of caution parking is very limited there and you will need to walk a fair distance if you do want to park in the area, or risk a parking ticket.

It is planned to leave Ludlow at 5.30pm.

If you have any queries regarding the trip then either text or phone Brian Davies on 07974 033040

Archived photographs
- Due to a server error with our hosting company, you will no doubt already be aware that as a result, we lost many photographs on this website. The good news is that the majority of these missing photographs have now been recovered and reinstated. Many are very old and well worth viewing. They are all in the archives and can be located right here...

Just follow the archived photos links at the top of each page to view them all.

Marriage allowance - There may be pension advantages if your spouse has a limited income. It would appear to be suitable for wives who did not work, or had a small income job. Many of our elderly members could fit into this category. Click here to find out more in the Members only section of this website. Sept 2015
Police Stations - We now have a new page solely for Police Stations. Please do feel free to send us photographs, especially of those buildings that no longer stand, for example, Gowerton Station.
You can access the new page here and from the Scrapbook menu on the Home page of this website.
20th Sept.

Facebook Many thanks to Tyrone Rees for setting up this brand new Facebook page for Swansea Narpo. You can now access and join the group by clicking here - 1st Sept 2015

We have been overwhelmed by the response to date and a little unprepared as we have not as yet had the opportunity to discuss ground rules which will be discussed at committee level at our next Narpo meeting, to be held at Cockett Police Station at 7pm on Monday 21st September. Any person wishing to attend this meeting is welcome to do so - please do contact us first so that we can arrange entry to the police station.

Any feedback will be most welcome, as this is a new venture to us and a challenge. We value your feedback, so don't hold back, tell us what you want, as our aim is to make this facebook account into an interesting and enjoyable tool which will be used and enjoyed by all.

Thanks everyone.

Bus/ Train Trip - On Wednesday 9th September 2015 we have a bus trip from Swansea to Devil’s Bridge and from there an 'optional steam train to Aberystwyth' at a cost of £11.50 per person.
(If you do not want to take the train you will be dropped off at Aberystwyth). The train leaves Devil's Bridge at 12.30pm so we have to leave Swansea (outside Tesco) at 8.30am sharp.

The train arrives at Aberystwyth at 1.30pm where we will stay until 5.0pm, returning to Swansea by mid evening. The bus is free to members and partners or 1 guest. Additional guests are welcome at a cost of £10 payable on the day. The bus has 48 seats and allocation will be on a first come first served basis. Please contact Brian Davies on Tel: 07974 033040 or text to book.
Travel with NARPO - After the dreadful incident in Tunisia their tourist market will drop away, understandably, for a long time. It was always high on the “good value “ list for families and anyone wanting a cheap deal, although many refused to try it. But now it is facing empty hotels, bars and shops. More here...

Travel, Critical Illness and similar Insurances. Several members have highlighted the below. The Life and Travel Insurance provided by Phillip Williams, Brokers, via the Police Federation does not cover critical illness on retirement and has limitations for pre existing health problems. These limitations are not unique to this policy.

It is worth checking any insurance policies you have , especially travel and cars , to ensure they have no hidden exclusions and they meet your needs.

NARPO are pleased to note that we have now received a response from the Treasury in which they confirm that the Government accept the determination in full - not only in relation to Mr Milne but also in relation to the other individuals potentially affected by the determination. They also confirm that Police and Firefighter Pension Scheme Administrators are now working to identify affected individuals and will ensure that payments are made as soon as possible.

We would encourage Members to be patient in this matter and not overburden Administrators with queries at this stage allowing them to get on with the task in hand as quickly as possible without distraction. - See more here

Sketty Police Station - Do you have any photographs or information about Sketty Police Station?
Further contributions would be very welcome.

We already have a dedicated page here and one of our contributors, Mr Paul Gibson, who does some film extra/acting work is writing and learning about his g/g Grandfather and writing his story from his humble beginnings being born in the workhouse and his policing career around South Wales. He was also one of the founding inspectors of the NSPCC in Swansea and South Wales in the EARLY 1890,s,which he combined with his police work.

There was actually a protection of cruelty to animals act RSPCA 1834, before there was an act of cruelty to children passed in 1889! The age of consent wasn't raised from 12 to 16 until 1885! He lived in a few of the stations including Sketty and Loughor and Paul's great Grandmother was born in Pontycymmer station in 1888.

Scams - In a recent twist, scam artists are using the phone to try to break into your computer. They call, claiming to be IT techs associated with well known companies. They state that they’ve detected viruses and other malware on your computer to trick you into giving them remote access. By doing so provides the caller with easy access to your personal details and compromises the security of passwords, which they change preventing you access.

“If a computer company calls to tell you that there’s a problem with your machine, it could be a scam.”

Carry a Medical cardCarry a Card As part of the branch's continued research and supportboth to its members, families and friends we often come across items which we believe will be of help and assistance especially in times of emergency when it is difficult to obtain the information often required by emergency personnel such doctors, nurses and paramedics.

Which is why we a suggesting that members who have health issues carry a card that provides emergency medical advice and contact details together with a list of your more serious illnesses and medications. If you want to carry such a card you can complete one on line, print it and laminate it.

It is known from the personal experience of some of our members how beneficial the contents of the card are to medical personnel especially when you are not in a position to answer any questions.

Check out the free cards here

BBQ – Karaoke - Quiz Evening   We are aware that our traditional Social events do not appeal to our younger Members – so we are offering something different

Due to a lack of support, the committee have decided to cancel the barbeque planned for the evening of Friday 10th July. Although quite a few people stated they were interested in attending, very few would give firm commitments, and it was felt that catering for people who may not attend was not an option. 2nd July

On Friday 10th July 2015 commencing - 6.0pm, we have arranged a Barbecue at the Dunvant Rugby Club (with indoor facilities should it be raining) - The evening will also include some Karaoke Fun   a quiz, and a raffle with good cash prizes   The cost will be £5 per head and again payable by cheque on the night and non member guests are most welcome at the same price. Your cheque will virtually be your admission ticket - It is essential that we know the approximate numbers attending so please contact Erika Fowler on Tel: 01269 597081 or Email - to let us know you are attending.

Whilst this event is aimed at our younger members all are welcome for a bit of a laugh and to meet up with old and new friends so please support this venture

Website errors - Due to a serious server breakdown with our Hosting Company in 2014, the entire Swansea Narpo web site was lost and deleted. If you do come across such errors, please do send an email to the Web officer, Jeff Davies (jeffdavies at informing him and by also including the relevant web page address. Eg. www.narposwansea/news.htm.
