Sketty Police Station - Do you have any photographs or information about Sketty Police Station?
Further contributions would be very welcome.

We already have a dedicated page here and one of our contributors, Mr Paul Gibson, who does some film extra/acting work is writing and learning about his g/g Grandfather and writing his story from his humble beginnings being born in the workhouse and his policing career around South Wales. He was also one of the founding inspectors of the NSPCC in Swansea and South Wales in the EARLY 1890,s,which he combined with his police work.

There was actually a protection of cruelty to animals act RSPCA 1834, before there was an act of cruelty to children passed in 1889! The age of consent wasn't raised from 12 to 16 until 1885! He lived in a few of the stations including Sketty and Loughor and Paul's great Grandmother was born in Pontycymmer station in 1888.

If you want to bring more guests the cost will be £7.95 per person. It is not necessary to attend all of these events, if you prefer, either turn up for the talk or the tea only.

If you wish to attend, and have not already done so, it is essential that you please ring Phone Brian Jones

Scam Phonecalls Police have identified that members of the public have received scam phonecalls from persons purporting to be from computer companies, as a result of this interaction they find themselves at a financial loss.

Beware - Theft of Lawn Mowers - Its that time of year, when new lawn mowers are purchased and kept in garden sheds. Its also that time of year when traditionally, those persons who can't afford a lawn mower, whether its new or not, steal lawnmowers and other items from insecure sheds. Members are requested to review their security of sheds etc to prevent themselves from becoming victims of crime.

In a recent twist, scam artists are using the phone to try to break into your computer. They call, claiming to be IT techs associated with well known companies. They state that they’ve detected viruses and other malware on your computer to trick you into giving them remote access. By doing so provides the caller with easy access to your personal details and compromises the security of passwords, which they change preventing you access.

“If a computer company calls to tell you that there’s a problem with your machine, it could be a scam.”

Carry a Medical cardCarry a Card As part of the branch's continued research and supportboth to its members, families and friends we often come across items which we believe will be of help and assistance especially in times of emergency when it is difficult to obtain the information often required by emergency personnel such doctors, nurses and paramedics.

Which is why we a suggesting that members who have health issues carry a card that provides emergency medical advice and contact details together with a list of your more serious illnesses and medications. If you want to carry such a card you can complete one on line, print it and laminate it.

It is known from the personal experience of some of our members how beneficial the contents of the card are to medical personnel especially when you are not in a position to answer any questions.

Subject: EDM 828 - a terrible injustice that involves many a Police widow

As part of the campaign and petition launched by Cathryn Hall with regards to righting an injustice which still affects lots of Police widows both now and in the future. An Early Day Motion No 828 has been started with cross party support in the Commons.

Good Evening Sir,

As you are aware I am a retired Police Officer, one of your constituents and a supporter of the Conservatives as well
As your good self over quite a number of years.

That is why am writing to seek your help and request that you sign EDM828 and help correct a terrible injustice that involves many a Police widow, The extract below is the wording of this particular EDM.

'That this House recognises that police officers often place themselves in the way of harm to protect their communities, sometimes making the ultimate sacrifice and leaving behind families and loved ones; believes that we have a moral and public duty to ensure all police widows and widowers are financially provided for for their lifetime; is deeply concerned that the Police Pension Regulations 1987 do not allow police widows or widowers the opportunity to marry or cohabit, without losing their right to a police widows' or widowers' pension for life; agrees with the Police Federation of England and Wales that it is morally and ethically wrong to make police widows and widowers and their dependants effectively choose between future financial security and the possibility of future personal happiness; welcomes the fact that the Police Pension Regulations 2006 allow new entrants or serving officers to transfer to a new scheme which permits their survivors to access benefits which are payable for life regardless of whether they remarry; regrets that nevertheless many police widows and widowers still remain disadvantaged by the Police Pensions Regulations 1987, and calls on the Government urgently to review the Police Pensions Regulations 1987 to ensure that the families of those who have served their community and been lost in the line of duty receive financial security regardless of their decision to remarry or cohabit.’

I trust that on this occasion you will find it in your heart to sign this EDM which has cross party support

Yours faithfully

Update - 6th March - Thanks very much to Paula at the Switchboard, South Wales Police Control Room, Andrew Walters has now been traced - A very Happy Ending :-)

Hello from Auckland, New Zealand.
Can anybody help me at all? I am trying to trace a Welsh police officer [I think based in Cardiff around 2003?] Andy Walters. He was working on motorway recovery patrol the day my sister and I had a rather nasty accident and was so helpful. We all kept in touch for several years then, as happens, the connection slipped. He did try to make contact with us through a friend's Facebook page about a year ago but the email address didn't work.

I would be so grateful if anyone has a contact address for Andy [wife Australian]. I have tried through local council offices but to no avail. Trish.

Any information please email

Dyfed Powys Police Helicopter
Reverse the decision to close the Dyfed-Powys police helicopter base at Pembrey, Carmarthenshire, on New Year's Day 2016. At 4,000 square miles, the Dyfed-Powys police force area is half the size of Wales. It is a vast rural region with almost 300 miles of coastline. Having a police helicopter based within the force area, as at present, is essential to ensure a rapid response to many types of emergencies.

Please click here or the above photograph to sign the petition.

Website errors - Due to a serious server breakdown with our Hosting Company in 2014, the entire Swansea Narpo web site was lost and deleted. This meant that all files had to be uploaded back on to the server. However, it is likely that there will still be instances where there are pages with missing photographs and broken links etc.

If you do come across such errors, please do send an email to the Web officer, Jeff Davies (jeffdavies at informing him and by also including the relevant web page address. Eg. www.narposwansea/news.htm.

Thank you.

For the website to continue to be a success and to continue to 'look fresh' we need your help!

We are confident that there must be many photographs and interesting / amusing anecdotes from your time in ‘the job’ that could be shared with others. Also, if you’ve embarked on an interesting hobby, enjoyed a new career or have advice for those about to leave the service - why not share your experience?

Newsletters by Email

During (2014) our Email system was hacked and our complete list of Email contact addresses was wiped out. We have managed to recover the vast majority but we are aware that in the aftermath of this hacking some of you had difficulty in re-submitting your details. If you have any doubts as to whether or not we have you listed correctly then please contact Phil to check. A brief Email to will suffice. This is now doubly important as we are moving towards a “presumed consent” system of sending the Newsletter by Email to the addresses we currently hold

Generally speaking the reaction to send future Newsletters by Email has been very positive. However, we appreciate that this is a major change and we have decided to proceed slowly and as previously indicated we will extend this system to more members progressively throughout the coming year and completion by the start of 2015.

We would like to reassure all members who do not have a computer that you will continue to receive your Newsletter by post and those of you with computers can continue to receive by post by opting out of our Email scheme!

NB: It is vital that we have your correct up to date email addresses!
